Top 10 Most Dangerous Dog Breeds

It’s good to know what breeds of dogs might be most dangerous, just to keep yourself safe. Sometimes the danger in a dog isn’t even a nasty personality, but a matter of them not knowing their own strength. Even though I personally still find it hard to believe that breed alone deems a dog “dangerous,” you never know what a dog’s owner has taught it. The research into the most dangerous dogs included below was performed by the American Veterinary Medical Association, the CDC, and the Humane Society of the United States. We’ll start with least dangerous of the bunch.

10. Dalmatian
Origin: Balkans, India, Middle Ages
Weight: 40-70 lbs
Height: 20-24 inches

Dalmatians are active and energetic dogs, loving to be outdoors. They are very playful and love running.

There’s still no definite info about what this breed was originally bred for. This is the first dotted breed in Europe, Asia and Africa. They were serving as warriors, hunters, and shepherds before finally becoming the symbol of the English fireman.

9. Boxer
Origin: Germany, 1850-ies
Weight: 50-70 lbs
Height: 20-25 inches

Unlike their name suggest, these dogs are not typically aggressive by nature. They are bright, energetic and playful breed. Boxers have been known to be "headstrong", which makes it a bit difficult to train them but with positive reinforcement techniques, Boxers often respond much better.

8. Presa Canario
Origin: Canary Islands, Africa
Weight: 100-125 lbs
Height: 25-26 inches

The Presa Canario hails from the Canary Islands, where the dogs were trained for hunting and for war. During the 18th century, English traders and merchants came to the Canary Islands, bringing with them their working and gladiator dogs, notably the Mastiff of England and the Bulldog. Englishmen also brought with them their traditions of pit fighting for which their breeds and the island dogs were inevitably mixed and eventually bred to produce the ultimate fighter. Nowadays the breed is used for guarding and the handling and driving of cattle.

The dogs of this breed can be gentle and noble with their families, showing great affection to their owners, and being suspicious of strangers. They are a guardian breed with man-stopping ability, incredible power and a complete lack of fear.

7. Chow Chow
Origin: China, antiquity
Weight: 40-65 lbs
Height: 18-22 inches

The chow chow is an independent dog often focused only on its own needs. Chow chows need constant physical activity and communication, even if they don’t seem to like being disturbed much.

Chow chows were bred for hunting and helping shepherds.

6. Doberman Pinscher
Origin: Germany, XIX century
Weight: 65-90 lbs
Height: 26-28 inches

Doberman pinschers (often just called dobermans) are dogs that were originally bred to protect and defend. It is important to avoid any type of aggressive play and struggle with these dogs, instead letting the games be guided to develop the doberman’s intelligence. Even though they aren’t small dogs, dobermans can adapt to life in a city and become a perfect companion for the experienced, physically active owner. The typical pet Doberman attacks only if it believes that it, its property, or its family are in danger.

5. Alaskan Malamute
Origin: North America, ancient times
Weight: 80-110 lbs
Height: 23-28 inches

The malamute is a friendly dog, but it has rather an independent temper. It’s better to keep this dog in a village, far from the city. Sometimes violent and energetic, they constantly need to move or play. If they are bored, they can become destructive. That's why this dog needs lots of exercise to be happy. It’s a working breed where the dogs are used to a cold climate, so if you don’t live in the deep north, make your malamute a nice playground as they are always in need of physical activity.

4. Husky
Origin: Siberia, ancient times
Weight: 35-55 lbs
Height: 20-24 inches

The training of a husky is a complicated thing, and this dog is not recommended for beginning dog owners. Initially these dogs were used to transport goods on a sleigh. Not afraid of cold weather, they’re very active and loving dogs. The love to get together with other members of their breed and howl at the moon.

A 2000 study of dog bites resulting in human fatalities in the U.S. found fifteen such fatalities (6% of the total) were caused by "husky-type" dogs between 1979 and 1997.

3. German Shepherd
Origin: Germany, XIX century
Weight: 70-85 lbs
Height: 22-26 inches

German shepherds are very beautiful dogs, distinguished from other breeds by their reliable and obedient temper. They are in need of constant and serious physical activity though, and they seem to give preference to long walks and active games.

Originally (as obvious from the name), the dogs were used for grazing sheep. They are great home guards and often participate in programs for the disabled. They are highly used by local authorities such as the police K-9 unit. German shepherds are known to be fearless and confident dogs.

2. Rottweiler
Origin: Germany, 1820-ies
Weight: 85-110 lbs
Height: 23-27 inches

Rottweilers are powerful dogs with strong jaws, primarily meant to protect. The breed was bred especially for that purpose. They often don’t like strangers and other dogs — they are guards at heart, and the dog owner should always remember that.

1. Pit Bull
Origin: US, XIX century
Weight: 55-65 lbs
Height: 18-22 inches

The pit bull was bred especially for dog fighting and, sad as it is, they’re still used for this purpose today. A pit bull is a fearless dog that will take on any opponent. They will lock their jaws onto the prey until it's dead. Pit bulls have a reputation of mauling people to death.

that is so stupid! are you serious rating dogs by their breed?

This is utter nonsense! The only "dangerous" part is just their size. A chihuahua is about five times more aggressive then you average pit-bull or a rott.

Anonymous said...

I have a pitt bull and I also have a 2 year old daughter this is so freaking stupid pits do not lock there jaws. My daughter can roll all over her and not one single time has she growled or anything. its the owners that make the dogs dangerous and what statistics are you going by? Pit bulls are the only dog that gets any kind of media attention why doesnt the golden retriver that bit his owner ever com on tv?

Zach Mac said...

This is a dumb list. You take so much care to only talk about the negatives of Pit Bulls when dogs such as the Presa Canario have killed people and not to mention the tons of people attacked by Chows.

I guess Pit Bulls are the only breed that have only negatives?

Once again, Dumbest list ever, Just some assholes opinion and no facts to back it up.

Anonymous said...

This list of full of shit, and I hope people don't believe a word of it.

Among the many thigns wrong with this list, I'm going to point out two blatant falsities:

1) Rottweiliers were NOT originally bred for protection. They were bred as draft dogs!

2) "Pit Bulls", were originally bred for the sport of bull baiting, not dogfights.

AND THEIR JAWS DO NOT LOCK!!

Thanks for contributing to the bad reputation of these poor dogs, you asshole. Do some goddamn research.

This really is a horrendously stupid list, governed by ignorance and flawed perceptions. Even individual dogs within breeds with have different temperaments.

Most of the time the reason a dog is "viscous" or aggressive is based on what its owners have taught it or how it has been treated. Just like with our own children, dogs will learn behaviors based on a consequence or reward system, and will most certainly fight for self preservation if it has been abused, beaten, or neglected.

You sir/ma'am are awful for posting this.

Anonymous said...

What's next, you're going to post a list of the top ten most dangerous types of people by race?

Thank you for propagating an INANE AND IRRATIONAL fear of the pit bull breed. Where would the world be without fear and hate mongers like you? Oh, that's right, it would be a better place.

Grow out of your fear of dogs, stop spreading hate and fear by posting bullshit like this, and for godsake check your facts before posting.

Anonymous said...

You have reinforced that all that you read on the internet is not true.

APBTs, do have the ability to lock their jaws, they do have very powerful biting power. THIS IS DUE TO PHYSICS, the power in the bite is the result of pounds per square inch of the skull.

Too bad, the person that wrote this article will never realize the misinformation that they are propagating, nor would they even care.

thats bull crap those dogs are only as mean as there owners make them they don't just grow up to be vicious
there because there trained to be to be like that since they could remember or there severely abused i have 2 pitt bulls & one German Shepherd they don't have an ounce of dangerous behavior in them so before you can make a top 10 most dangerous dog list own all those dogs before you can assume there dangerous than just judging them by what you hear or see on the news..

MY SWEET, POOR LITTLE PUPPY (ACTUALLY VERY BIG FOR A PUPPY) JUST WANTS TO BE LOVED BY EVERYONE, BUT BECAUSE OF YOUR STUPID, IDIOTIC ARTICLES - EVERYONE'S SCARED OF HIM & WON'T GO NEAR HIM!!!

People like you...hold up ill re-write that, stooges like you just make it harder for real owners to be understood and explain/defend the breeds we love

Pit Bulls are only as dangerous as the black people that own them, usually.

Get rid of black people and Pits would magically transform into lovable, cuddly little teddy bears.

Anonymous said...

WHO EVER BELIEVES THIS NEEDS THEIR HEAD EXAMINED.

#1 ON THE LIST SHOULD BE ALL OF MANKIND.

IT'S THE OWNERS WHO SHAPE THE DOGS.

Anonymous said...

Fuckin retarded the only thing about these dogs that could be dangerous is their owners!

Anonymous said...

Everyone really just needs to calm down. If you took the time to read the short intro at the beginning of the article you'd see that the research was not done by the writer. They were simply restating what other researchers have written. Also it may be the owners fault if a dog is violent but some breeds are naturally aggressive although no fault of their own. Great Danes have to have their skulls cracked due to the fact that their brains grow and begin to press against their skulls, making them aggressive.

Anonymous said...

Dogs will do what they will bred to do. Most of the dogs you have listed aren't dangerous just need to be owned by the correct people.

What an ignorant list, you mention "Pit Bull's" were bred to fight, and unfortunately still are. Dog and animal aggression does not make them dangerous, nor does it make them likely to kill humans.

Anonymous said...

There's no such thing as a dangerous dog, just dangerous owners.

Pit bulls have been more commonly bred for their sweetness as a breed in recent years, but they're still used as fighting dogs. When animals are abused like that, yes, they're going to be dangerous, because they're trying to defend themselves.

Also, no matter what the dog breed, poor training can cause serious problems. If you're stupid enough to improperly train your dog, or not train it at all, then you're asking for trouble.

In addition to this, IF these breeds really were dangerous, one has to keep in mind that not all animals adhere to breed standards. You can have a golden retriever who is simply more aggressive as an individual than the rest of the breed. That doesn't make the entire breed "dangerous."

This blog post is both ill informed and entirely inaccurate. The information presented here is incredibly biased and obviously you have never read ASPCA documentation of the various breeds. If you had, this post wouldn't exist.

I hope a Pit Bull saves your life some day. Then maybe you'll realize how wrong you are.

Anonymous said...

I've gotta' agree with most of the comments above, this list fucking sucks. Pit bulls don't "lock jaws." No breed of dog does. If anything, the lab should be on here. They account for far more bites/attacks than rotties OR pits put together. Get your shit straight.

Anonymous said...

It's always wise to only consider a pet that you can physically subdue once their natural wilder side kicked in. They're adorable nonetheless but they're still animals.

Anonymous said...

This list is absolutely ridiculous. There are more reported CHIHUAHUA bites. Pit Bulls are only bad when their ignorant owners are bad. Probably came from the same gene pool as the ignorant person who wrote this article. Pit bulls weren't originally dog fighters; try nursery guards.

jil said...

fact: pit bulls CANNOT lock their jaws. if this was true how would they eat or drink water? yes the tend to be more dog aggressive than other breeds but with good training they can be as friendly as a lab, like my pit bull :]

Anonymous said...

I dont know where you get your info about what pits are bred for but your wrong. Pits were originally bred to take down bulls. The pits bred for fighting are inbred.

Next time you wanna make a list like this get your facts right.

Anonymous said...

I was so pissed off when I read this list, but feel a little better now after reading that I'm clearly not the only one who recognizes it as complete bull$h1t. That's just what my sweet Pitbull needs is more ignorant people afraid of him because they read tripe like this. Funny that some people don't even recognize him as a Pit because so many photos of alleged Pits are actually some other breed!

Tom said...

None of Spitz dogs (Huskies, Malumutes) are naturally dangerous. Almost all of them are intelligent, playful, and can be a little boisterous, but the one thing that makes a dog dangerous is a lack of training, or the wrong sort of training. Take a large animal, train it to behave aggressively, and there'll be problems.

But this isn't related to the breed of the animal, or even its size even small dogs (Terriers, that sort of thing) can be dangerous to young children without training.

This list is ridiculous.

Katie said...

You're stupid and ignorant. My pit bull was used as bait and doesn't get along with other dogs, but she would never hurt a person. She's had little kids all over her and she loves attention, and she is the most affectionate dog on the planet. The only thing she would hurt is a cheeseburger.

If pit bulls get banned, I will find you and punch you in the crotch.

Benny said...

you know nothing about dogs. I have three pitbulls and two small children in my house. the pitbulls are the best babysitters a dad can ask for. they have never attacked a human, friend or stranger, and never will unless I tell them to do so. they make for horrible guard dogs because they don't know they are supposed to be weary of strangers. they were originally bred for dog fighting, not people fighting. my neighbor has a chihuahua that I won't let me kids near because it's the spawn of satan. stop being so prejudice against certain breeds. dogs, like people, are innocent until proven guilty. ban the deed, not the breed.

FFS, look at a damn newspaper. All of you "A pit bull isn't dangerous" people... Wanna do a quick bit of research as to the proportion of pit related deaths as compared to every other breed?

http://www.dogbitelaw.com/PAGES/statistics.html

Here, have some research to back up the article. Pit bulls ARE dangerous. They're bred to be. That's not to say a good owner can't curb that, but even a nice pit can maul someone if pissed off. It's more how you contain a pit than the training, pits inherently don't like other dogs and can be aggressive to children.

Anonymous said...

I agree this is complete bullshit!!!!! It is not the dog.. it is most definitely the owner that makes the dog viscous and mean, so no fault can be placed on the dog but the owner. And what do we do to the owners that raise them this way??? nothing!!!! its bullshit to assume the dog is at fault when its how they are brought up just like a child!!!

Anonymous said...

pit bulls are NOT dangerous, and if you do GOOD research you will find out they were first bred by farmers to help take down bulls! They were trained to never let go of the bull no matter what until either the bull or the dog was dead. And they were trained by the farmer to listen to its owners!So... Hence the name....PIT BULL. It got the pit part from the retards that starting breeding the dogs for fighting, never EVER blame the dog, blame the stupid owners who don't know whats right and wrong or how to train their dog. And for the other dogs, again its the owners responsibility for how their dogs act. The dogs that are aggressive to humans should not be alive. Oh yea one more fact about pit bulls, during world war II they were actually Americas mascot! They were Americas heroes.

I'm from the Canary Islands and I have a couple of things to say about the Presa Canario: (1) The dogs in the pic are not Presa Canario. Just google it and compare. (2) The Canary Islands are part of Spain, Europe. Geograpically are about 100 km off the Sahara coast and same parallel than Florida, while Mainland Spain is only 14 km away from Morocco. (3) The reason for this breed is very debated here, but war is definitely not in the list. There have been no war in the Canaries from the Spanish occupation (15th century) until the Civil war (1936-1939). These dogs have never been used here for military purposes. Regarding hunting, it's also very unlikely. There is almost no big game on the Islands. (4) I don't remember hearing of one of this dogs attacking people. They are known for being serious, calm and loyal, the kind of dogs you don't want to go and make fun at, but they never attack unless being provoqued... at least around here. If you train them to kill, obviously they will kill. They are massive and their jaws really impress.

Nysa said...

WOW! Really??? I own a 16 month Staffordshire Terrier. She is the best dog I have ever had and I have owned a lot! I would choose my pibble over my old lab any day! This could have been researched more as the writer was not as informed as they should be. How about you come over and meet my pibble.. or the miniature poodle that's bit my kid 3 times in the face!!! I have a hard enough time finding a place to live without this kind of publications.. Don't hate the breed, hate the deed.... and the owners that treat/train them to be that way! These dog's were raised to bait bulls. Human stupidity then said "hey lets have them fight each other!" It is us the stupid humans who are to blame!!! My 11 and 13 year old's agree!

Anonymous said...

Pit bulls are dangerous dogs and should be banned from public.
Other dangerous dogs that should be in the list are the argentinian dogo.
I don't agree with some breeds but in general good list.

Anonymous said...

Everyone i know who owns a pit bull will all say the same thing...its how you raise it that will determine their behavior. Pit bulls have been used for fighting, but doesnt mean every single one is gonna chew your leg off. i have seen more mean chihuahuas and Labrador retrievers than I have pitbulls. This whole thing was obviously very opinionated..

Anonymous said...

Just to let the people know that do believe that pit bulls are aggressive towards everything...this is a lie. They are dog aggressive, mostly with same sex. When a person is training their pit bull to fight, the dog should never shown any aggression towards humans, if they do the owner puts them down. The point of the dog was to fight other animals. And as for the locking jaw part, that is false. I would recommend watching dogs 101 on pit bulls. They talk about how the pit bull has the cheek muscle ( I wish I could tell you what the muscle was called) but it takes over most of the pit bulls head which gives the pit bull a stronger muscle. Like any dog, you have to watch them and be careful. Like humans they won't get along with everything out there. And I can't give you the exact place I read it, but the AKC or someone like that did an aggression test on a pit bull and they ranked the same if not higher as other dogs. So if I were you do some more research (positive) on pit bulls. Pit bulls that have attacked people are orphan dogs, or pits that are owned by someone who doesn't care what their dog does. All dogs snap, just like humans. So before you discriminate...PLEASE do more research and got to a Humane Society and talk to people who have worked with Pit Bulls, they will shed a different color on them!

Dan said...

Did you do any research, your retarted, ive never commented on anything ive ever read but your ignorance forced my hand. My pitbull was one of the nicest and most caring dogs ive ever owned, and human aggression was actually BREAD OUT of them, you would know this if you did any factual research, during the generations of breeding the dog to fight animals, any dogs that ever turned on an owner were put down, all human aggression was bread out of them generations ago. Any dog can still turn on its owner, I had a tiny little lap dog attack me, my pitbull has never once even growled at me or a stranger.

Dog owners love to anthropomorphosize their pets, but it is what makes them dangerous. I have ridden bicycles for 20 years, and have been chased, wrecked, and bitten by dogs. If your dog is not contained, trained, and entertained, it may not refrain from attacking humans including cyclists and children, joggers, salesmen, even police officers.

You may not think your 50lb family pet is dangerous, but if it chases and bites a cyclist, it may kill him.

FWIW, I started carrying protective weapons because of a relatively small bulldog and a large golden retriever that have chased and threatened me on rides. The bulldog was brave enough to approach and bite my bicycle, when 2 large dobermans were smart enough to leave me be.

maybe you have never heard of anybody breeding pits to protect nurseries, but that doesn't mean they're not. In fact in England they're called nanny dogs and trained to watch and guard children on a regular basis. If you'd do your research you'd learn that 1% of all dog attacks are contributed to Pitbulls. Just 1%. And saying the whole breed is dangerous just because a few were in the news for attacking somebody is like saying sailors can always win in a fist fight against Marines. No, it's in the news because it happens so rarely that it's news worthy! Sorry all navy vets out there, but Dad was a Marine so...

But regardless of what any of you say, you can NOT argue that the dog with the absolute highest attack rate ON RECORD is in fact the pit bull!

Personally, I have never met an aggressive Rott, but I still won't own one because I can't escape the absolute facts about the attack frequency that has been reported and recorded.

And why in the hell would anyone want to take the chance of themselves or possibly a child being injured?

Pit Bulls do not "maul people to death". For your information, only 2% of Pit Bulls are used in dog fighting. They were known as "nanny dogs" in England because of thier gentle nature. Pit Bulls are only aggressive when their owner abuses them and teaches them to fight and Chihauhas and Dauschounds are more dangerous.

Has anyone else noticed that only big dogs are on this list? Whoever created this page is an idiot!

This is complete bs, I have a male rottweiler that loves other dogs, cats and small animals, new people and kids. I also have a female pitbull, who is the exact same as my rottweiler. I love how people STEREOTYPE these breeds, I wonder if they realize that its NOT the BREED, but solely the OWNER!!! And I totally agree....Chihuahuas and other small breeds are definitely more aggressive then anything I have ever encountered. People go on about racism and how it should stop, well dog breeds are just different races, just like people. My Native people own this land but you dont see us breaking out into this type of pathetic outbreak. Leave the big breeds alone and if you cannot properly own and train a dog of any breed, THEN YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE ONE.

If any dog could lock their jaw, they wouldn't be a dog, that ability would make them a different species.

85% of people questioned in a poll incorrectly identified 12 other breeds as Pitbull. So those bite/attack stats that you want to condem the breed with are incorrect.

A SF Chronicle reporter audited his own papers headlines & stories, as well as 4 other major newspapers.
He found overwhelming proof that Pitbull stories were run as headline articles where as other dog attacks from other breeds were ignored.

Pitbulls were not specifically bread for fighting. They were bread as the ultimate companion dog. The were once known as "Nanny" dogs.

This kind of ignorance is just as bad as racism or sexism.

if you think about it the list isnt total rubbish as if a little dog like a chihuahua bit you it wouldnt do much damage you would surive whereas if a big dog like a husky bit you its going to do more damage, i think its wrong to say what any dog is like due to its breed any animal is totally unperdicatable and 9/10 its the way the owner has trained or not trained the dog

Bogus. The number 10 dog was the most dangerous breed in the US for years. That is until it was replaced by the current most dangerous. The Golden Retriever. Other than that, there are only two breeds shown here that I would regard as being inherently dangerous. The Presa Canario and the Chow. The Presa Canario because of a notably unstable personality, and the Chow because of inbreeding. Pit Bulls I would regard as the LEAST dangerous breed shown. It says right in the description, "Pit Bulls are a fearless breed", meaning that Pit Bulls don't bite or attack out of fear, which is the most common reason domesticated dogs bite. A well socialized Pit is going to know that something the size of a child is NOT capable of hurting it, so no reason to be afraid.

Okay for one, pits do lock their jaws, its not something they can control, but they do have "Lock-jaw". I'm not bashing them, I have 2 and Pits are my favorite breed of dog. And I say this even when one nearly attacked and killed my mini schnauzer, but I'm not going to blame the breed, I blame that ONE dog and the owner for not securing their dog and for not socializing him properly.
Its not the breeds. ANY dog breed can be aggressive. Breed really has nothing to do with it, any dog can be other dog aggressive.
I've been bit by 3 dogs my entire life, and not one of them were pits. 2 rotts (One was trained as a guard dog, I was trying to get it back in its yard when it got out, and the other was a family dog, but I was crawling all over him and wasnt taking his warnings) and the other was a boxer lab mix.

After a neighbor had told me about two of his Aunts cats being killed I was explaining how it couldn't have been our dogs when Willy ,a 15 lb weenie somethingorother shot out and bit the guys ankle.

Stuff these dogs and the damage they inflict on citizens.
Even one child mauled is one too many. They should do an intelligence test on owner before allowing them to be owned.
So stuff all your puppy talk. These dogs can cause serious harm because they powerful and usually are protective.
So they deserve the spotlight.

You're idiots. Do you want the author to go down the lists on a dog by dog list? Of course there are exceptions and if you train, raise and control your dog they will be an exception. I had to watch 2 malamutes for about a year and while I loved those dogs to death, I knew and saw that they could cause serious damage. Certain dogs are simply more aggressive. Yes, chihuahuas might b more likely to bark but I'd much rather have a chihuahua bark at me for an hour than a rottweiler bark once. Don't take things so personal.

Ok first of all for all u idiots that cant read its not the person who posted this who done the studies so dont bash them..i myself have owned a pitbull and i sure as hell did not train it to be mean and it attacked me..no they are not all bad but they can turn on ANYONE..any dog can be aggressive but just bcuz they are trained right doesnt mean they wont turn..these dogs are listed by most reported attacks...just bcuz YOUR dog aint attacked doesnt mean they arent vicious breeds...here is a cool question if pitbulls were not bred to be fighting dogs or were not naturally aggresive why is that they were chose out of so many different breeds to be fighting dogs? And i can turn any pit into a fighter but try training a poodle to fight..and as far as yall who claim not to be able to get an apartment or house bcuz of ur pitbull heres an idea find a house/apartment that doesnt say "no dogs"

I personally own a staffy pit cross, called Lucy Lu, she is the best dog I have ever owned, actually sleeping lay next to my 3 year old son, only thing that's dangerous about her is how much she dribbles and licks you. This list is just rediculous propaganda and should be removed from the internet, I had to get a dangerous dog license, because of all the hype surrounding pitts.
I have seen more people in hospital because of a lab bite and they are reconmended family dogs.
My dog was from an abusive background me and my fiancee rescued her, she's not once gone for anyone.

Your more then welcome round my house to meet a well trained and loved staff pit cross and see how wrong you are!!!

I do not care what the Pitbull owners say, anymore. I am 46, have loved animals and especially dogs all of my life. I never had any fear before. But I was attacked and bitten hard in several places by a pitbull that broke his chain. I was only talking to the neighborhood kid about bicycles. The dog just went insane. Another neighbor had a pitbull that tried to attack me several times because I wear black boots. So, FU!!

These breeds are not dangerous, the owners are, ignoramus. When people get attacked by these, it's mostly because they haven't been socialized to humans, the owner trained them to bite or the attacked person was doing something the dog found to be threatening, like staring in their eyes or yelling at their owner.

I've been bitten by quite a few dogs before, of which 3 were breeds like YORK TERRIER, SHITZU and CHIHUAHUA. Not on the list, right? But they bit me without warning, I was just sitting there.
I got bitten by a Boxer once but that was more of a 'boxer nip'. I got a bruise, he pulled away when he noticed I yelled and the next day, I could belly rub him and he drooled all over me, wagging his complete BUTT...

This list is the pure definition of bullshit. Get your facts straight when you copy random myths from the internet.
My friend's thesis is about dog bites in families and her research in this country showed that most of the house-bites occured with Labs, Spaniels and lapdogs like Poodles. Not Rots, Pinchers or even Pitt's. (Only one Rot in all cases she got from the past two years)
And those are facts, since she got her numbers by various universital hospitals, pounds, humane socities and vets. THAT's getting your facts straight, Wikipedia isn't.

The title is "Most Dangerous Breeds" not aggressive....or "Always Dangerous"...So for the person that spoke of the Chihauha? Yes, it's Size is what makes it Not dangerous. If there was a list for aggressive breeds it should be included. I have had many Pit Bulls since I was a child, I love them and yes they have alot of potential for being dangerous (doesn't mean they all are or have to be) but this list is about breed potential for being dangerous. The major thing I think is wrong with the list is that the Presa isn't higher up? I would think the sheer size of the dog would put it at number one or two?...I love my Presa, best dog I have ever had, but definitely more dangerous than all the Pits I have had, from a breed stand point. Having a dangerous breed isn't an insult, it's just the reality of the breed. I don't think you all understand.

Any animal with short mouth or jaws; usual the bite is stronger, for example the most dogs have a longer jaws and the Rottweiler and Pit bull have short jaws for this reason the bite are more stronger. The Hypos have a danger mouth; can kill any crock with one bite. Hyena are one of the stronger jaws, only the lion can kill, but the leopard or close size when having the pray run a way when seeing a hyena. Not the longer, but short mouth; have a powerful bite. I had a Rottweiler and notice be a very smart dog; stronger jaws; I used to give to him a fresh coco and big, my dog grab without any problem. A.Oscar

Hey .. Of course, the dog's size is taken into account when it should be judged whether a dog is dangerous to humans and other animals. Originally, all dogs are predators which has the instinct to hunt and kill prey. But it is an owner's responsibility to ensure that the dog is a safe and good dog. I am a dog owner myself, a bird dog. My dog is a family member who never goes on a leash, dog yard has never existed and she is allowed to do what we humans do. The only problem that has occurred is that she does not realize that cars are dangerous (and she is yelling at anxious male dogs during the period). And I have grown up in a home where relocated dogs has taken a part in the home. I ampersonally not interested in having some of the dogs on the list abow, for all the dogs have extreme confidence and dominance. And the the dog MUST have a strict and harsh upbringing for it to be 100% safe for all other humans and animals. And I do not have the heart to treat a dog like that. NB. My dog is brought up that way that anyone can come and pick anything out of her mouth without her reacting to it (she just get sad). And when it comes to children and small animals that bothers her, she just jogging away ..

Great list, really relevant and true. Pit bulls are horrible dogs. Cats for life!

Ray said...

Pit bulls do not have locking Jaws!!!!! They were bred as Bull Baiters not Fighters. Also Rotties were Draft and Drover dogs. Not guardians. You should have done some research before adding to the stereotypes that these dogs have.

Why isn't labradors or chihuahuas on the list? I have seen them bite more people than any other breed on that stupid list. Also you do not even have a picture of a pit bull on there. That is a Dogo Argentino.

Anonymous said...

Stupid list.

Alsations are some of the most(if not the most) safe dogs around children.

Also a dog's danger level depends on how it was brought up and not its breed.

As long as people like you keep putting out misinformation about dog breeds then my sweet, loving dogs will be feared leading to the possibility of their death due to banning of certain breeds. How many dogs have already died due to fear stirred by misinformation. Here is some correct information: average number of people killed each year by pit bulls 3, by cigarettes 440,000, by automobiles 42,366. What should be feared?

For you ignorant wankers saying "NO BREED ID DANGEROUS IT'S THE OWNER" YOU ARE WRONG!!! Some dogs were breed and trained to accomplish different things, most dogs that are often aggressive were trained for killing, hunting fighting, war related or enforcement related. It's instinctive for these dogs to protect and have a dominant manor. No average Pittbull is friendlier than the average Golden Retriever. I had German Shepard who protected the family like crazy but he did bite strangers if they approached us. Yes the owner does help and you can train any breed to accomplish certain things, however not all breeds are the same.

How about taking this inaccurate piece of trash off of your site please? It makes you look like a retard, and gives other retards the impression that their fact-less opinion is correct.

1. It has been scientifically proven that pitbulls can NOT lock their jaws.
2. I don't know where you got your info but on what planet where pitbuls ever created specifically for fighting?
Pitbuls where made to be a hunting dog and were used as such until drug dealers and uneducated gheto folks started pitting them against each other for their own entertainment. In fact up until after world warII they were commonly referred to as 'nanny dogs' because of there reputation for protecting children and being so gentle with them. These dogs have the reputation they do because of stupid niggers, stupid neglectful parents that leave their ignorant little bastard children to pull on ears and tails and kick and slap without one single representation, fucktard news reporters that don't bother to differentiate between a pitbul or the Cane Corso that really bit that womans face off, and people like you who don't bother to do their homework before posting UNTRUE breed discriminating literature. Pitbulls are a danger to the burglar lurking in your yard, the man beating his wife in the street, or the guy with a knife held to that woman and her child. They are NOT a danger to the families and homes they live in.

Everyone, this list is based on REPORTED dog bites by breed. These large strong breed dogs were named because if some of them may have bitten, the bite gets reported. People who have been bitten by Chihuahuas or any other smaller breed, chances are that the bite victim doesn't report it. Larger breed = bigger injury based on dog's size and strength. Any breed, large or small, if not exercised and given an outlet to release their energy will get bored and frustrated and find their own outlet (that is, chewing, destroying, excessive digging, anxious behavior, overall misbehaving, biting . . .). I agree, though, that this list just made certain breeds look so bad to the 'ignorant' (lack of knowledge) reader.

I've owned one Pit Bull (so far) and he is the BEST dog I have EVER had!! He was raised by my female Pomeranian and would never hurt a little dog! He witnessed her being attacked as a puppy and for the rest of her life, he would body check any dog that would run towards her. I have seen VERY aggro Chihuahuas and statistically you are more likely to be bitten by a poodle than a Pitty. My son crawled all over him as a baby an he never so much as growled. These dogs are deeply loyal to their families and I will have at least one until the day that I die!!

This is the dumbest list I have ever seen. I have a doberman and she is the biggest suck ever and all of the other dobies that I know are the exact same way! As was mentioned several times before me its not the breed that is dangerous but the owner that trains the dogs and dumb people who believe that an entire breed is dangerous! This should be removed from this site (or any other site) because its lists like this that make people who don't know believe this shit is true and continue the stigma of these breeds where people like myself and others have worked hard to show people that it is not true.

Also, to the person who was "attacked" on their bike...FYI the dog was NOT attacking you but the bike you were on. That is simply a product of the dog not being exposed to the bike which it is now scared of. That goes for anything else a dog is "attacking".

Also, it is known that more children are bitten from labs every year then any of these dogs. Why? Because people think labs are such wonderful dogs and don't ever bite humans so people don't watch their kids but put a doberman or a pitbull in the room and all of a sudden people are glued to their kids. Give me a break. Any dog can bite and be "dangerous" its all about how you train your dog and what you exposed them too. Plain and simple. Also, pitbulls don't lock their jaws. Do some research before posting garbage like this again.
